Gestalt Therapy & Process Groups
Gestalt process groups offer a deeper therapeutic space for self-exploration, emotional awareness and relational healing. These groups are grounded in Gestalt Psychotherapy, a holistic and relational approach that focuses on present-moment awareness, authentic connection and understanding how we relate to ourselves, others and the world around us.
In a process group, we explore what is happening in the “here and now” — thoughts, emotions, body sensations, patterns, reactions and relational dynamics. Group members are invited to become more aware of their experiences in a safe and supportive environment.
These groups can support people experiencing:
Anxiety and overwhelm
Depression or emotional numbness
Relationship difficulties
Trauma and nervous system dysregulation
Grief and loss
Low self-esteem or disconnection
Difficulty expressing needs or emotions
A longing for deeper connection and authenticity
Gestalt group therapy can help you:
Develop greater self-awareness
Build healthier relationships and boundaries
Increase emotional regulation and nervous system awareness
Explore patterns that may no longer be serving you
Feel seen, heard and supported in community
Strengthen your sense of self
Practise authentic communication and connection
Deepen understanding of your emotional and relational world
The group process unfolds gently and collaboratively. There is no pressure to share beyond your capacity. Members are encouraged to move at their own pace while being supported with care, curiosity and respect.
As a PACFA-registered counsellor and Gestalt psychotherapist, I facilitate groups with a trauma-aware, relational and body-oriented approach. I pay close attention to safety, group dynamics, nervous system regulation and creating a supportive environment where people can feel grounded and included.
An initial consultation or interview is required before joining a therapy/process group to ensure the group is the right fit for your needs and readiness.
Benefits of Group Therapy
Group therapy can be deeply healing because it allows us to experience ourselves in relationship with others. Many people find that healing happens not only through insight, but through connection, support and being witnessed by others.
Benefits of group therapy include:
Increased self-awareness
Reduced isolation and loneliness
Learning through shared experiences
Improved communication and relational skills
Emotional support and validation
Opportunities for personal growth and reflection
Greater confidence and sense of belonging
Building healthier boundaries and connection
Nervous system regulation through safe relationships
Groups can offer a sense of community and shared humanity that individual therapy alone may not provide.
Women’s Support Groups
The Women’s Support Groups at Selkie Counselling & Psychotherapy are gentle spaces for connection, reflection, creativity and support. These groups are designed for women seeking meaningful community, emotional support and opportunities to reconnect with themselves and others.
In a world that can feel fast, isolating and demanding, these groups offer space to slow down, breathe and be alongside others in a grounded and nurturing environment.
Groups may include:
Reflective conversations
Mindfulness and grounding practices
Creative expression and journalling
Nervous system awareness and self-care
Seasonal and cyclical rituals
Relational support and shared experiences
Psychoeducation around emotions, boundaries and wellbeing
These groups are not about “fixing” yourself. They are about creating space for authenticity, support, compassion and connection.
Women’s support groups can help you:
Feel less alone and more connected
Build supportive relationships with other women
Strengthen self-awareness and self-compassion
Reduce stress and emotional overwhelm
Develop grounding and coping strategies
Reconnect with creativity, rest and reflection
Feel supported through life transitions, motherhood, grief or burnout
The atmosphere of these groups is warm, welcoming and inclusive. I aim to create spaces where women feel safe enough to show up as they are, without pressure or judgement.
